UKHO launches ENC Maintenance Record
The UK Hydrographic Office has launched what it calls the Admiralty ENC Maintenance Record (NP 133C), designed to streamline management of paper records of Electronic Nautical Charts (ENC) and ECDIS maintenance aboard ships and thus make information on official digital charts more accessible for bridge crews.
Similar to the UKHO’s Paper Chart Maintenance version, the new publication will aid inspections and assist Solas Chapter V carriage compliance while streamlining information management. It is laid out in nine logical sections, with templates for bridge crews making administrative processes faster and more efficient. Moreover, by consolidating records into one well-organised folder, it also enables inspectors and auditors to quickly confirm that ENCs and ECDIS are well-managed.
Likewise, folder sections will encourage bridge crews to store additional material on general ECDIS maintenance. Assuming all sections are completed and up to date, a complete folder can be used as part of a handover process and can also be easily integrated into the Safety Management System as an aid to ISM (International Safety Management) compliance.
