Valeport underwater positioning development
A fresh approach to problems of underwater positioning is possible with its new VA500 Altimeter, say oceanographic and instrumentation specialists Valeport of Totnes, Devon UK.
Designed to meet increasing demands from AUV, ROV and hydrographic users, the system’s latest signal processing is claimed to provide unrivalled range and performance from a 500kHz broadband transducer.
Housed in a compact and robust titanium package and capable of millimetric precision over ranges from 0.1m to 100m, system options include integration of a high accuracy pressure sensor while both OEM and Right Angled package configurations are also available. The system can additionally be interfaced to Valeport’s Bathypack sound velocity and density profiling units as well as those of other manufacturers.
Meanwhile, the company has also been lately involved with Hampshire UK based OceanWise with installation of a novel tidal, wave and weather monitoring system for the Australian Marine Complex centre in Henderson, Western Australia. It uses a combination of Valeport and Gill Instruments sensors and equipment, with data output telemetered to OceanWise’s online subscription service in Oxford, Port-Log.net.
