World Hydrography Day
International hydrographic cooperation in support of safe navigation is the theme chosen by the International Hydrographic Organization for this year’s UN World Hydrography Day on 21 June.
The Monaco based inter-governmental body says it will provide its 80 member states and others with opportunities to promote their activities at bilateral, multinational, regional and global levels covering all aspects of hydrography contributing to navigational safety, from chart coverage and data exchange to standards development and regional cooperation.
The IHO itself is to head celebrations with a reception attended by Prince Albert II and members of the Monaco government along with representatives of diplomatic missions and leading maritime organisations. Elsewhere, national hydrographic services and organisations of the UK, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Australia, India, South Africa and the US are among many others expected to convene commemorative events.
