World Hydrography Day
Hydrography – More Than Just Charts is the theme chosen by the International Hydrographic Organization in Monaco for this year’s UN World Hydrography Day on 21 June.
Its aim is to broaden general public appreciation of the profession’s global role beyond navigational safety, one which is also crucial for coastal zone management, defence and security, tourism, aquaculture, biomedics, shipbuilding, ocean energy and minerals, science and coastal observations and port operations.
National hydrographic services and organisations in Australia, France, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, North and South America, Scandinavia, Spain, the UK and the US are among those expected to stage commemorative events while in Monaco itself Prince Albert II will attend an IHO reception for government and diplomatic mission officials as well as representatives of other local organisations.
