World Hydrography Day – by David Goodfellow
’Hydrographic Services – The Essential Element for Maritime Trade’ is the theme for this year’s UN-sponsored World Hydrography Day on 21 June.
Chosen by the inter-governmental International Hydrographic Organization in Monaco as the theme best suited to illustrate the continuing need for hydrography in the safe and effective transportation of 90% of world trade, celebrations will mainly highlight the contributory role of national charting agencies.
Among organisations expected to stage events will be those in Australia, Canada, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Russia, UK and the US.
