First US contract awarded to Ampelmann
Dutch firm Ampelmann is stepping into the US offshore wind market for the first time.
Dutch offshore access provision firm Ampelmann has won a contract for the US offshore wind market to supply its E1000 motion-compensated platform to the towage and transport company Otto Candies.
The E1000 platform will be fitted to the Inspection, Maintenance and Repair vessel Paul Candies to provide safer and more reliable offshore access for crew hooking up and commissioning wind turbines in three commercial-scale wind farms in the northeast US Atlantic.
The ’Walk to Work’ (W2W) systems are custom made and designed so that the movement of people to and from ships and offshore structures is safe regardless of wave heights, weather conditions and vessel sizes.
They can also hoist equipment up to a tonne in weight, and Ampelmann says the fitting will mean that multiple turbines ca be seviced at once.
In March, Ampelmann’s A-type motion-compensated gangway was fitted to MMA Offshore’s MMA Privilege, a workboat currently supplying maintenance services to a wind farm at the Côte d’Ivoire.
