MacGregor cranes chosen for Van Oord WTIV
MacGregor has been selected to supply two auxiliary offshore telescopic cranes to Van Oord to use on its new generation wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV), thought to be one of the largest in the world.
The 175m vessel will be built at Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Shipyard for transporting and installing foundations and turbines.
MacGregor’s telescopic cranes will be used to support the cargo and load handling during turbine installation and are equipped with an anti-collision system.
With a main crane lifting capacity of more than 3,000 tonnes, the vessel will have an advanced jacking system, with four giant legs of 126m in length enabling the vessel to work in waters of up to 70 metres.
“These offshore telescopic cranes are customied according to the ship owner’s requirements, with high lifting performance and long outreach but very compact and robust design to meet the stringent offshore requirements,” said Sun Shiyan, director of Supply Chain Management at the shipyard.
