Short Sea Shipping 2001/2002

Ships in Focus Publications have now taken over the publication of thispopular guide for coaster enthusiasts. Gilbert Mayes latest edition includesdetails of all short sea cargo vessels whose owner, operator, charterer oragent is based in the UK or Ireland orvessels which fly these flags.

Ships involved in the short sea trades continue to grow in size and capacity, particularly true of container and ro-ro ships employed on dedicated liner routes.

There has also been a complimentary increase in the number of small feeder container vessels linking outlying ports with main container hubs, a development praised for its contribution to reduced road congestion and pollution.

This edition sees a large number of additional ships, mainly welcome newcomers to the UK register. The growth in the shipment of quarry products on the river and canal system of the UK’s east coast has been reflected in the first-time inclusion of the majority of barges employed in this trade. In total, almost 200 companies are included and some 800 ship names are listed.

The addition of extra ships and a section of colour photographs sees Short Sea Shipping grow bigger and better than ever.
