Big Box Load Is Beautiful

On 27 September, the pushboat Riad left Rotterdams ECT Delta Terminals with a record load of 652TEU. All of the 415 containers on board were full, to be unloaded in Rotterdam and feedered on to Antwerp.

The 73m long and 27.2m wide ship, costing a reported ¢90m, was reportedly first due for delivery in April, then in September.

Nautically the transport posed no problems but was limited to a speed of 10km/h. The high volume load was barge operator WCT-MCA ‘s answer to the problem of overstretched terminals; one barge takes less time to handle than several.
