New UK/Holland Freight Service
Harwich International Port haswelcomed the first call of a new Nedlines BV ro-pax service. The service between the Essex UK port and IJmuiden in the Netherlands is operated by the MS Envoy and is chartered by Finnlines. It focuses on driver accompanied freight traffic and offers a daily overnight sailing.
Her winning project, called Hypo Hoist, is designed for one person to be able to rescue sailors who have fallen overboard and may be unconscious or suffering from hypothermia. The device enables the sailor in distress to be retrieved single-handedly from the water in a sail-like cradle and rolled gently onto the deck for resuscitation.
This gives customers an alternative route next to existing operators on the North Sea and the Channel. The MSEnvoy isequipped with 70 modern cabins, a self service restaurant, bar, shop and truckers’ lounge.
