New CLEAN Supply Vessel

The new supply vessel North Mariner, named in a ceremony last month, is the first British ordered vessel to be built to DNVs new environmental class.

Plans to develop Bathside Bay at Harwich will now be the subject of a public inquiry.

The platform supply vessel was built by Simek A/S of Norway under subcontract from Soviknes Verft AS and delivered to Gulf Offshore North Sea Ltd of Aberdeen in Scotland.

North Mariner is the sixth UT 745 design delivered from Simek. It was built to DNV’s main class notation (+A1) and new voluntary CLEAN class notation. Gulf Offshore currently operates/manages 33 vessels in the North Sea in accordance with a safety management system in compliance with the ISM Code and BS EN ISO 9002.

The company achieved ISM through DNV long before it was mandatory and has now opted to follow suit with DNV’s environmental class.

The hull and superstructure above the main deck were built at Maritim Ltd in Gdansk, Poland and transported separately by barge to Simek’s Flekkefjord yard. The 84m long vessel is powered by two of Rolls Royce Marine’s Bergen BRM-8 main engines, each developing 3,530kW at 750rpm. These drive 3,500mm diameter Kamewa Ulstein propellers through Kamewa Ulstein gearboxes for a speed during trials of 16 knots.
