New Ropax Ferries Will Boost North Sea Traffic
Stena Line will expand its North Sea business in 2006 with the introduction of two new Ropax ferries on the Hook of Holland – Killingholme freight route. The two ferries of the Stena Seabridger Class will be built by Stena RoRo at FMV in Norway and will be ready to operate on the route in May and November of 2006.
‘The new vessels will give the route about 80% more loading capacity when they replace the Stena Seatrader and Stena Searider , said Stena Line managing director Gunnar Blomdahl. ‘The Hook of Holland – Killingholme route has enjoyed positive growth since its launch four years ago and freight customers are demanding more capacity’.
The new vessels will be better adapted to the route’s specific needs, being better suited for freight traffic with drivers on board and with faster operating speeds allowing schedules to be adapted to customer needs. More capacity will also enhance the Hook of Holland’s role as the central hub for sea transport between the UK and the Continent.
