Newbuilds Follow Fleet Review
Trinity House Lighthouse Service and Northern Lighthouse Board have appointed Burness Corlett and Partners Ltd to design and supervise the construction of two multi-function tenders and a rapid intervention vessel as part of a major review of the General Lighthouse Authorities fleet.
The voyage beat the previous world record for crossing the Channel in an amphibious craft by a whopping six hours. Gibbs Technologies’ Aquada is the world’s first amphibious vehicle capable of speeds of over 30mph in water and over 100mph on land.
The build programme resulted from the GLA fleet review and provides a first ever opportunity to purpose design and build ships that are interoperable across all three GLAs. This will reduce running costs and benefit the GLAs’ ongoing drive to reduce Light Dues.
