Monstrous crane boom will load future turbines
Swire Blue Ocean has contracted Blue Water Shipping to transport an installation vessel’s new crane boom from NOV’s manufacturing yard to Denmark aboard SAL’s ‘M/V Wiebke’.
The boom was successfully loaded onto the vessel in late January. It was expected to reach Denmark early March with installation on board Pacific Osprey to commence soon after. SBO expects Pacific Osprey to be back in service by 1 May 2020.
Pacific Osprey is a 2012 built, self-elevating Windfarm Installation Vessel, originally fitted with a 1,200MT main crane @31 m radius with a 97m hook height above deck – targeted for both foundation and wind turbine installations.
Pacific Osprey’s new crane boom will have a simplified design focused on providing efficient turbine installations, with optimisations driven by experience.
With its upgraded crane boom, Pacific Osprey will be capable of handling the next generation of turbines, and under normal operating conditions, the newly equipped vessel will be capable of loading out three of the largest GE Haliade-X 12MW turbines in one trip.
