Data Buoys Debut
Surrey UK based Planet Ocean has announced a new off the shelf range of data buoy platforms for environmental instrumentation in all operational conditions. Starting with the low cost 1.24m DB-124 inshore buoy and rising to the open ocean 3m DB-300 model, all in the range incorporate high specification radar reflectors, self contained solar powered navigational light, through hull deployment tubes, solar panels and integral equipment housings. The buoys are foam filled and unsinkable.
Under the contract Tideland will supply all the US Coast Guard’s requirement over the next three years, with the first tranche of 97 units already ordered. Tideland’s Canadian subsidiary won a similar order from the Canadian Coast Guard in the autumn of 2004 and the company also supplies a number of Latin American countries, including Mexico and Brazil.
