Syncrolan Warning System Lights North Sea
Tideland Signals Syncrolan offshore warning system has been chosen to mark a water injection platform (WIP) currently being added to BPs Valhall Field in the Norwegian North Sea as part of a long term programme of investment.
The new WIP is an extension to an existing wellhead platform built in 1996 and bridge-linked to the Valhall field centre. The platform is already marked by a Tideland Syncrolan system, which will now be modified so that both can be monitored from the existing control panel. The WIP will be commissioned in the autumn of this year.
The Syncrolan light station features a main flashing white light with a range of 15 nautical miles, a secondary white light and a red subsidiary light. The main light is fitted with 750W twin-filament lamps and TL-1000 automatic lampchanger to greatly extend the maintenance interval.
The Valhall Field is 30km south of the Ekofisk Platform and has been on stream since 1982. The field has recently had its license extended to 2028 and construction of a new wellhead platform, with an option for a second depending on export capacity, has just been announced. The developments are planned for the northern and southern flanks of the field and will increase recoverable reserves by 127 million barrels of oil equivalent.
