Cavotec wins largest order yet

Cavotec has won three MoorMaster orders totalling more than €28m for use at lock, roro ferry and bulk handling applications in Australia, Canada and Denmark.

Cavotec will manufacture and deliver 39 MoorMaster MM400L (Lock) units for 13 locks at St Lawrence

One of the orders is for the St Lawrence Seaway in Canada, which will be the largest to date for MoorMaster and one of the biggest projects secured in the history of the group.

Under the terms of the St Lawrence agreement, Cavotec will manufacture and deliver 39 MoorMaster MM400L (Lock) units for 13 locks and related rail structures on which the units will be mounted. Cavotec engineers will also oversee delivery up until the end of 2016, installation and commissioning.

Cavotec’s equipment will mean more vessels will be able to traverse the route, which forms an essential trade link between the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Lakes, because they will no longer have to equip their vessels with Seaway specific fittings.

MoorMaster is a vacuum-based automated mooring technology that eliminates the need for conventional mooring lines. Remote controlled vacuum pads recessed in, or mounted on the quayside or pontoons, moor and release vessels in seconds.

The units will securely hold the vessel in place during mooring operations in wind speeds of more than 20m/s, and automatically adjust the position of the vessel according to tidal variations.

Cavotec says the units will also enable more streamlined, efficient operations, and improve safety for those on board the vessel and those onshore.

The other orders came from Australia where Cavotec has been contracted to to support the installation and commissioning of eight MoorMaster MM200B bulk units by dredging expert Jan de Nul at a bulk handling application.

Lastly, from Denmark where two MM400 units will be used in conjunction with a new build LNG passenger and car ferry that serves the route between Hov in Jutland and Saelvig on Samsoe island.

In the third project, Cavotec has been contracted to support the installation and commissioning of eight MoorMaster™ MM200B (Bulk) units by dredging company Jan de Nul at a bulk handling application in Australia.

MoorMaster is currently in operation at bulk and container handling, Ro/Ro, ferry and lock applications in North America, Europe and Australasia.
