Council unveils plan to develop Caernarfon Dock – by David Foxwell

Part of the £650,000 project, which has support from the Welsh Assembly under its ‘Mon Menai’ programme, has already been completed. A dredging strategy for the new facility was completed early in 2009.

Local news sources say Gwynedd Council recently finished replacing anchors and chains, which were used to hold down pontoons in the dock, with sheet piles in order to clear the marina basin so that dredging work can be completed with minimal restrictions. A specialist company working on behalf of the council has also completed detailed ground investigation and soil analysis within the dock basin.

The council is also reportedly in discussion with the Countryside Council for Wales regarding the dredging requirements and, if the work is given the green light, it is hoped that the marina basin will be dredged during the early part of 2011. It is hoped that the entire project will have been completed before the end of 2012.
