Fehmarnbelt tunnel contractor list narrows
Nine large contractor consortia have prequalified to submit tenders for the four main construction contracts for the fixed tunnel link across the Fehmarnbelt.
The fixed link between Germany and Denmark is being managed by the Danish state-owned company Femern A/S and will consist of a 17.6km long immersed road and rail tunnel comprising eighty nine, 217m long elements, each with a maximum weight of 73,500 tonnes. Around 15.5 million m3 of seabed soil will be excavated for the tunnel which, at three times the length of the Trans-Bay Tube Bart Tunnel in San Francisco, will take over the crown of the worlds’ longest immersed tunnel. The majority of the components for the tunnel will be produced at a factory east of Rødbyhavn in Denmark
Four main contracts will be awarded for the construction: north tunnel, south tunnel, portals and ramps and finally, dredging. The companies prequalifying are: Fehmarn Belt Contractors (separately Germany and Netherlands), Femern Link Contractors (separately France, Denmark and Belgium), JV Salini-Impregilo-Samsung-Bunte (Italy), OHL-Daewoo-Daelim JV (Spain), Immersia (Spain) and Jan de Nul NV (Belgium).
The pre-qualifiers will receive tender documents this year with preliminary and final bids due for consideration in 2014 for inclusion in the Danish parliament’s work on the Construction Act.
