Funding boost for London Gateway container port
A port development project that will require dredging of the Thames Estuary has secured a £ 12.7m cash injection. According to reports, the East of England Regional Assembly and East of England Development Agency have announced that the cash will be ploughed into DP World’ s London Gateway container port project at Shell Haven.
The money comes from the Ten-T European funding for transport improvements following a successful bid by DP World to contribute to the cost of dredging the Thames.
Dredging has to take place to pave the way for large container ships to reach the new port which will be built at the former Shell Haven oil refinery site at Coryton.
