Lerwick’s new fish quay takes shape

Lerwick is the principal commercial port for Shetland and the most northerly commercial port in the UK. Its location puts it in an important position to service the offshore oil and gas industry, including becoming a role leader in the decommissioning of offshore installations. While many ports, over a period of time, may be seeing a decline in fishing activities, that particular industry in Lerwick is still thriving, with around 2,000 fishing vessels using the port annually landing over 61,000 tonnes of fish valued at £50.1m.

The current work is at Mair’s Yard, where a new quay is being built. Local contractor Tulloch Developments has now completed installation of piling for the 151m long berth. A large area of land reclamation has been created with work due for completion by July this year.
