Lightweight piping for Caribbean pit stops
Durapipe UK’ s fuel supply system has been specified for a new luxury marina development in Costa Rica.
Once complete in late this year, Marina Papagayo will provide a pivotal mooring destination for crafts cruising from the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and all points of the Pacific. It will also offer an authentic waterfront village housing shops, dining venues, bars and entertainment facilities.
The new marina is a custom designed, ultra-wide floating dock system, which will be able to accommodate 180 luxury watercraft of up to 220ft. From design to construction, every detail at Marina Papagayo has been approached with a mandate to deliver world class service, with the fuel supply systems no exception.
Durapipe UK was selected to supply all of the pipework for the fuel supply systems, which consisted of its PLX close fit secondary containment system in size 50#63mm, its PLX ‘pipe-in-pipe’ system in size 90#160 and a full range of PLX electrofusion fittings, couplers, tees and elbows.
The Durapipe PLX system was used to transfer the fuel from the main storage tanks at high level, along the wall of the marina and down to the filling station pontoon on the marina. As the pipework needed to be fitted above ground and will be exposed to the elements, a solution was needed that can cope with the varying conditions. The secondary contained option of Durapipe PLX is designed to limit impact damage so is ideal for above ground systems, whilst the UV light resistance properties ensure it will retain its high performance levels over the lifetime of the system.
Working outside in high temperatures, the contractors were also looking for a product that would be quick and easy to install. At approximately one sixth the weight of steel, the lightweight nature of Durapipe PLX means it is much quicker and easier to handle on site, compared with traditional metal systems.
