New linkspan on order for Kiel – by David Foxwell
The Bollhörnkai berth in Kiel, Germany, which is currently being updated and rebuilt for use by Stena Line for the Gothenburg ferry route, also requires the installation of an adjustable main deck linkspan to replace an existing concrete slope. TTS Port Equipment AB has been tasked with supplying the 26m wide linkspan.
The new linkspan will be designed to fit several vessels, but initially to serve Stena Germanica, Stena Scandinavica, Stena Britannica and Stena Hollandica. Designed with noise reducing features, it will be of the mechanical supported type, hinged on a bank seat concrete foundation.
At the seaward end the linkspan will be adjustable to fit different vessel drafts and water levels, and will be manoeuvred by means of hydraulic cylinders. It will be capable of being secured at a series of fixed positions prior to the vessel’s arrival. The berthed vessel’s ramp will be lowered until it rests on the linkspan in free-floating mode.
