Plans for development at the Port of Cork

The proposed development to extend Cork’s existing facilities at Ringaskiddy comprises three main elements: a container terminal and multi-purpose berth to the east side of Ringaskiddy Basin, extending the existing deepwater berth along with the creation of additional cargo storage areas through reclamation to the west side of the basin and, finally, improvements to the existing road entrance to the deepwater terminal.

The phased work will see the transfer of cargo handling activities from Tivoli and City Quays allowing mixed use development in Cork City. The existing terminals have navigational and landside constraints and there is the requirement to cater for larger and deeper draft vessels. Public information days have taken place and planning application is expected before the end of 2013.
