Xblocs for LNG terminal in Australia – by David Foxwell
The latest project of Delta Marine Consultants in The Netherlands is to make use of XBloc armoured units in the breakwater for a LNG terminal in Northwest Australia.
The breakwater will be armoured by a large number of Xbloc armoured units, with as many as 22,000 Xblocs due to be produced in Indonesia by BAM Decorient in the port of Cigading, Java, and then loaded onto barges which will transport the Xblocs to Australia.
The breakwater for the LNG terminal will act as the causeway leading to the LNG jetty and provide shelter for tug berths.
Mould fabrication for the Xblocs started in February and Xbloc production started in March. The breakwater is designed for a significant wave height of 6m and a water depth of 9m at DWL. Two sizes of Xblocs will be used, 1.5 cubic metres and 6 cubic metres. The breakwater will have a length of 2.5km.
