High Thrust push for Bremen’s new fireboat
Following successful trials, the new 23.9m Damen Fire Fighting/Police Patrol vessel Bremen 1 has been handed over to its new owner, the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.
It will be used jointly by Police and Fire departments in Bremen, Germany, so it has been painted in the two colours red and blue.
Under emergency call out, the vessel can reach speeds of 40 km/hr with its triple Caterpillar engines driving triple UltraJet High Thrust Waterjets via ZF500 gearboxes. UltraJet waterjets were chosen for their high thrust performance required during fire fighting operations and for towing purposes.
The UltraJet Electro-hydraulic system gives total control of thrust vectoring throughout the vessel’s speed range as well as giving the boat excellent manoeuvrability during operations.
The aluminium hull structure is built to ZSUK – Zone 2 regulations and features an aft compact wheelhouse with accommodation for crew and passengers and enough room on the bow and stern for two hydraulic cranes and winches.
The helm station is equipped with a JRC JMA-609-7 and Alphatron navigation systems. Fire fighting equipment on board includes two Cat CO4.4 TA generator sets, a large fire fighting pump with a capacity of 14,000 l/min, and a smaller electrically driven pump with 1,000 l/min, both at 10 bar.
