Vacon Drives Into From Finland into New Territory
Finlands Vacon Plc haslaunched a range of new air and liquid cooled drives designed for main propulsion as well as auxiliary drives for fans, winches and pumps for a range of boats including workboats.
The concept of the new drives, based on Vacon NX modular frequency converters, incorporates separate power and control sections, easily customised software, and energy savings of up to 40%.
The new designs meet the requirements of marine classification societies while claiming to be the most compact high power, low voltage frequency converters available.
The power section of the liquid cooled version uses aluminium cooling elements and offers space savings of up to 80%. The new units also feature fireproof halogen-free cabling throughout.
Early orders for the new drives include azimuth bow thruster control for MV Havila , main propulsion drives for the Finnish Maritime Administration’s M/S Seili , and drive units for bow thrusters, winches and net handling equipment on board the all electric hopper dredger Mellina .
