Armada Marine Hydraulics Ltd
Current thoughts on hydraulic and gearbox filtration revolve around monitoring oil quality in preparation for an oil change ahead of a catastrophic failure. However, while the industry is working hard on preventative solutions, Europafilter is a cure. It removes particles down to 0.1 micron, varnish, water and salts which effectively means you will never have to change the oil again, only the filter insert. Europafilter does not remove additives. Goodchild Marine Services Ltd
Traditionally pilot boats are similar to the rugged sailing vessels that they replaced – heavy and round bilged and requiring very large engines to make them go fast. The latest Goodchild ORC 171 pilot vessels however are based on planing hulls, with heavy scantlings only where needed. This lighter construction and planing hull form leads to much reduced fuel consumption. An innovative ‘beak’ bow design reduces slamming, allows higher transit speeds in bad weather, and helps to pull away from the ships’ side. Category: Vessel Design & Construction.

Maricuda Ltd
The Talon anchor and its deck mounted stowing tray makes raising and lowering a simple task by minimising the need to lean outboard in a small craft. The Talon anchor self aligns when retrieved to ensure rapid and secure stowing: is retained and stowed on a stainless steel tray which gives more room in the boat, is safer and is cleaner. The tray itself drains over the side thus keeping mud and sand out of the boat, and hinges outboard ensuring that the Talon anchor is raised and lowered clear of the hull. Marvair Marine International
Not to be confused with high voltage inverter units, these low consumption, 12V and 24V variable speed AC units speed up or slow down according to demand and can be powered by battery or from solar energy. The units are safe for work boats where AC power is not available or a reduction of weight is required, giving air conditioning without the need of a generator or high voltage. The variable DC compressor has no inductive load and when the temperature is achieved the compressor slows down to reduce consumption. The intuitive control conserves energy used by the air conditioning on the boat. Because these can run from renewable sources, the size of batteries are reduced.
Marvair also has a roof top unit that requires no water cooling for boats working in silted waters. What makes this unit innovative is that there is a variable speed 12 or 24V DC compressor inside.
The company is also exhibiting a variable speed modulating air conditioning system. A single compressor can cool many rooms and each room has its own control – the compressor slows and speeds depending on demand. If the work boat requires power to other areas, the compressor can be wired to reduce the power draw but still cool vital areas automatically while saving weight and power. McMurdo Ltd
The Smartfind S10 is an innovative personal safety device incorporating AIS and GPS technology: it recognises that the key to a successful recovery is the speed in which the mother vessel can be made aware of the casualty in the water. Bearing and distance information is accurately transmitted and displayed on the AIS receiver or plotter screen of the vessel the individual has come from, and other AIS equipped vessels within a typical four mile radius, giving potential rescuers all the information they require to carry out swift retrieval of an individual. Category: Safety & Training.
Naiad Dynamics UK Ltd
A catamaran motion damping system that reduces pitch and roll combines elements that previously were only available on larger vessels. The Ride Control System (RCS) combines an Interceptor at the transom and a new design of T-Foil mounted forward on each hull of the catamaran. These are moved by hydraulic actuators to positions dictated by the networked controller, and reductions in motion of up to 80 % in pitch and 50% in roll, plus a 60% reduction of vertical acceleration at the forward perpendicular is achievable. The system also provides automatic control of the running trim and heel. Category: Marine Equipment, Electronics & Materials.

Osbit Power Ltd
MaXccess is an elegant solution to the problem of providing a stable point from which to access wind turbine boat landings. The bow of the vessel is restrained by creating a controlled friction based connection, while allowing the vessel to roll, pitch and yaw. The resulting system is compact, requires little power and is ultimately cost effective. This is possible due to the innovative clamp and linkage arrangement for which OP is seeking patent protection. This creates a single hitch point around which the vessel is free to roll, pitch and yaw, without the need for active hydraulic damping systems. Category: Safety & Training.

Spinlock Ltd
Wearing a lifejacket light is an essential aid to fast rescue. Conventional lifejacket lights are not always visible from a given direction because they all deploy below head-level. The new Pylon light operates at a height of 23cm above the line of head to give uninterrupted, all-round visibility. Pylon is the only emergency light that gives warning of battery discharge. Other lights only indicate that battery and bulb are working – but not for how long. The microchip in Pylon’s simple test switch will confirm that the light will continue to flash for more than the required 10 hours. Further, it deploys automatically to give the lifejacket wearer all-round 360 degree visibility to rescuers. Category: Safety & Training.
Suzuki Marine
The DF300AP features a Suzuki Selective Rotation. This means that Suzuki has been able to unify both regular and counter rotation operations into a single outboard model. In its standard mode, the DF300AP will operate in regular clockwise rotation, using the forward gear. By adding a counter rotational propeller which uses a reverse gear that’s been upgraded and improved to give it the same characteristics as the forward gears it means that just one model can be used for applications using multiple outboards. Commercial operators, boat builders and dealers will be able to carry lower levels of stock, and because of their versatility the outboards will retain a higher resale value.
