Multijets Fast Blast for European Diplomat
UHP (UK) recently won a contract to remove 1,600m2 of epoxy mastic coating from the main and upper decks of P& OIrish Seas ferry European Diplomat within a very tight time frame.
It mobilised equipment and riding crew to join the vessel at Rosslare Europort. They took with them a Calder Multijet 160 ultra-high pressure pump unit which had been acquired only four days prior to mobilisation.
Blasting commenced and continued during the voyage as European Diplomat, normally operating on the Rosslare to Cherbourg route, sailed for berthing at Birkenhead where refurbishment would be completed.
The coating was removed at a rapid rate and ahead of schedule, enabling UHP to carry out additional blasting around sensitive porthole areas.
The Calder Multijet 160 incorporates a Hammelmann HDP 120 continuous duty pump delivering 19 litres per minute at 3,000 bar operating pressure for significantly higher productivity compared to more common 2,000 bar units. For this application the Multijet was coupled with the Ergoblast triggerless blast gun which is designed to reduce operator fatigue whilst giving unrestricted pressurised water flow for enhanced cleaning performance.
