Orbital Welding Works on Shipboard Pipes
With higher quality standards making it more necessary for automatic manufacturing systems to be used wherever possible, there has been increasing demand for Automatic Orbital TIG equipment supplied by Peterborough UK based Orbimatic GmbH for welding shipboard pipework.
The Orbital TIG Welding Process covers many applications on pipework up to 275 mm diameter and can be used to weld any type of metal. The Orbital Welding system has three main components; a computerised power supply, a cooling system, and a welding head.
The computerised power supply controls the welding cycle and movement of the welding head. Welding parameters are checked, verified and adjusted 500 times per second to ensure a consistent weld profile. The power supply will also store thousands of welding procedures and will also hold ‘weld data log files’ of each weld performed.
The cooling system cools the welding head, maintaining temperatures to produce repeatable results and to stop parts from expanding and jamming. The cooling system protects the system and gives it a long lifespan.
There are two common types of welding head; Fully Enclosed heads are used on outside diameters up to 170mm and Open Arc weld heads will extend up to 275 mm OD.
