Equipment rental specialist Ashtead Technology, which earlier this year spent £500,000 on the purchase of Reson SeaBat 7125 multibeam units, has invested a further £600,000 on proprietary subsea equipment from fellow Aberdeen company, CDL.
Systems include CDL’s new MobIUS mobile inertial underwater positioning system, providing heading, attitude, speed of sound, acoustic telemetry and ranging with optional display facilities as part of a compact ROV-friendly battery powered assembly. Also supplied are MiniPos3 inertial navigation systems for multiple aiding options together with lightweight TOGS (Tiny Optical Gyro System) with North seeking compass capabilities, which is suitable for installations where space is at a premium.
Ian Harvey, Ashtead’s base manager said this latest investment is in response to increased customer demand for the very latest underwater technology, particularly for use in harsh environments. The company currently maintains an inventory of 16,000 items worth in excess of £55m for rental from 17 locations across Europe, America and Asia.
