Nearshore Component to Longest Pipeline Survey
Corrintec have commenced their longest ever subsea pipeline cathodic protection survey programme in the Gulf of Mexico. The survey, commissioned by PEMEX and operated by Oceanografia, will cover a total of 4,620km over a period of 54 months concentrating on pipelines within the South West sector of the Bay of Campeche.
Chesterfield UK based Corrintec will be surveying trunk lines running from the Rebombeo Field to Dos Bocas of approximately 300km in length plus more than 300km of in-field survey work. They will also be surveying three lines running from the shore to vessel mooring buoys amounting to 60 km. Therefore, each survey will cover 660 km and over the next 54 months all of the lines will be surveyed 7 times.
The surveys are carried out on a 24 hour basis with Oceanografia supplying the ‘second man’ who has received training from Corrintec in the use of the survey system, a process made easier by a ‘user-friendly’ software package.
The surveys are carried out to monitor the condition and effectiveness of pipeline corrosion protection systems.
The information is then used to determine whether maintenance work is required and to pinpoint the exact location if remedial action is required.
All surveys will be carried out using ROV mounted equipment except for sections of the trunk pipelines within 5km of the shore which are surveyed using the trailing wire technique.
Corrintec have developed advanced survey software with fully programmable video overlays and configurable navigation data. Another advantage is that historical data of previous surveys can be presented simultaneously to examine the rate at which changes are occurring to the pipeline coatings and anodes.
