Kooiman supplies towing pins to Multraship

MJ was provided with an explanation of the principle behind the Kooiman Delta Pin at Europort 2017 in Rotterdam. The units consist of a pair of towing pins along with a wire, chain catcher to enhance the safety of the working environment on tugs’ afterdecks. Both the pins and the wire catcher are hydraulically retractable into the deck, all three being angled vertically. The pins form an inverted ‘V’ when raised eliminating the requirement of a rotating element to release the enclosed wire as with vertical pins, the wire catcher hook is closed by gravity and released when retracted into the deck.

The Delta Pin unit will be fitted to Multraship’s 2010-built, 94tbp Damen ASD 3213 tug Multratug 3 and the installation is expected to widen employment potential for the tug.
