Climate-neutral research vessel

The concept was presented to the German government’s coordinator for maritime economy and tourism, Claudia Müller, as she attended the official opening of the company’s new offices in Warnemünde.

The company’s start-up has grown rapidly and is looking to expand from its original 35 employees.

“Now we are starting the next phase and are looking for creative engineers as well as architects who want to make sustainable shipping a reality with us,” said Robert Laade, operations manager of MNE.

“We want to grow to more than 50 team members as quickly as possible and to more than 100 in the long term.”

Polar research on green methanol

At its Mecklenburg-Vorpommern yard, MNE has created a polar research vessel that runs on green methanol, enabling climate-neutral operation in sensitive environments. The interior fittings have all been crafted using sustainable materials.

“The new polar research vessel is a completely climate-neutral design and combines the know-how of our new team members and those who have been with the MEYER Group for some time – so we have managed to think another step ahead,” said Malte Poelmann, managing director of MNE and chief technology officer of the MEYER Group.

MNE is now working on the development of two naval fuel supply vessels for the German navy, most of which are being built at Neptun Werft on behalf of Naval Vessels Lürssen.
