Next-gen transfer offshore boat unveiled

The new vessel, designed to operate at the Hornsea offshore wind farms, is larger, more robust and capable of carrying more technicians and cargo than its predecessor.

“Technicians were highly satisfied after testing in March and that’s the best validation we could ask for,” said Søren Westphal, senior project manager at Esvagt. “Our SOV concept, together with transfer boats, has proven its potential.

“STB15 is the natural next step to meet growing demand.”

Esvagt originally transformed offshore wind operations with its purpose-built STBs, which addressed a critical industry need for flexible and efficient technician transport. Today, the STB platform remains a key component of wind farm logistics across Europe.

The STB15 enhances operational capability by supporting both traditional boat landings and the innovative GUS hoist system, which allows technicians to be lifted directly on to turbine platforms.

Hvide Sande Shipyard, which also built the earlier STB12, was once again chosen to construct the new vessel.

Designed with a stabiliser and interceptor system, the STB15 ensures greater comfort and safety, both at rest and while under way.
