Tug delivery and order round-up

This month’s new arrival and order news includes an interesting hybrid “cat-type” workboat from a Dutch shipyard not featuring regularly in the workboat sector.

Werft Shipbuilding is based in Urk, a town on the banks of the Ijsselmeer, where fishing is the economic mainstay. The shipyard is well established as a builder of quality fishing vessels, and recently Pieter Pruiksma, on behalf of Werft, signed a contract with Pieter Hoefnagel on behalf of TB Waterwerk for construction of a Hybrid Cat 2411e workboat.

TB Waterwerk, also based in Urk, operates in the dredging industry with a small fleet of vessels including a push tug and workboat, and its new addition, to be named Leon H, will be a significant addition. It will be outfitted for 100% electric power supply, the main deck arranged to accommodate a 20ft container equipped with a battery package for zero-emission operation.

Leon H will have a LOA of 23.85m and beam of 11.45m. With a draught of one metre it is described as ultra-shallow draught with a triple Tier III Scania generator arrangement delivering 15tbp. It will have 167m² of deck space with deck machinery including a 150t brake winch, towing pins and shark jaws and two Heila cranes, giving the vessel a lifting capacity of 25t @5.8m. Leon H is described as being ‘equipped for a multitude of operations’.

Gaastmeer Design is just 60km north of Urk and will be responsible for the engineering. With the hull delivered by VCU-TCD, woodwork by De Flux and nautical equipment from De Boer, all from Urk, Leon H is described as a ‘local masterpiece’ with production now under way and delivery due at the end of 2023.

Ocean Group

British Columbia-based Ocean Group has a new addition to its fleet in the Damen ASD 2813 tug Ocean Cypress, built by Damen’s Song Cam Shipyard in Vietnam.

It brings the number of this particular Damen marque in Ocean’s fleet to three, joining Ocean Granville and Ocean Kitsilano, both delivered in 2019 and working in British Columbia.

Ocean Cypress will be based mainly in North Vancouver for the next few months, while also able to support operations at other sites including Delta Port and the Fraser River.
