Ulstein converts wind vessel for oil and gas

Olympic Notos is a hybrid vessel that was delivered to Olympic only last year, since when she has been ‘in continuous operation’ according to Ulstein.

Deployed to support offshore wind farms near Saint-Nazaire and Brest in France, including about 80 turbines at the Parc Éolien de Saint‑Nazaire. 

“Customers particularly highlight the vessel’s unique combination of comfort, operability and efficiency – both in terms of fuel consumption and operational performance,” Ulstein says.

The vessel has a diesel-electric system with variable-speed generators, integrated large battery storage, and Ulstein’s smart energy management.

The vessel is also methanol ready and equipped with shore power-charging for zero‑emission port operations. Olympic reports close to 50% reduction in fuel consumption compared to conventional CSOVs.

Once the retrofit is completed, Olympic Notos will be chartered for five years with AkerBP. Modifications include permanent gangway connections for personnel transfer, and should be completed and ready for her new job next spring.

Olympic Notos is the second of two sister vessels for Olympic built by Ulstein.

Olympic Boreas, also based on the Ulstein SX222 design at 89.6m long by 19.2m, was delivered to Olympic just before the Paris Olympics last year.
