Following the successful launch of the C32B version of the long established C32 marine diesel, Caterpillar has now introduced a further upgrade of this engine.

The earlier version of this engine was rated at 2025hp whilst the latest version is rated at 2433hp, a rating that takes this Caterpillar engine into direct competition with its German competitors in what is an important sector of the marine market. This high rating is mainly for applications in the leisure sector but the same percentage increase in power output is offered for users in the patrol and workboat sectors where the power rating is now 2025hp, the same rating that was previously offered for leisure applications.

Much of the increase in power output has been achieved by fitting a new turbo-charging system that uses three turbochargers operating in sequential mode. This new arrangement of turbochargers is claimed to not only increase the power output but to give a smoother application of power throughout the range. Compared to the C32B 2025 MHP model, the new engine has an updated cooling system and the new sequential air system that delivers faster response and better performance. Additional options include extended oil change intervals, full MCS certification, including duplex filtration, and a cosmetic engine cover.

A spokesperson for Caterpillar Marine claimed, ”The C32B Triple Turbo engine has something to offer for everyone in the high-performance segment, such as higher vessel speed and more environmentally friendly options. The C32B has also been designed with re-powers in mind to allow significant upgrades to existing vessels.” The new C32B Triple Turbo complies with EPA Tier 3 Recreational and IMO II emissions regulations and a fully integrated SCR solution for IMO III.

“We are extremely excited to build on our recent introduction of the C32B by bringing even more power density to the industry with our best-in-class V12 engine. The C32B Triple Turbo engine will be a difference-maker for the high-performance marine segment, both in power and performance.” says Allen Bowman, Caterpillar Marine Product Strategy Lead for C32.

The Cat C32B Triple Turbo engine will be available to order in late 2021 and comes with industry-leading warranty coverage.
