RoxAnn System Upgraded
Seabed mapping specialists Sonavision of Aberdeen have re-designed their RoxAnn system with introduction of a smaller and lighter version, the GD-A. It can be powered using a USB connection from a computer, although a 5 volt DC laptop supply unit is also included.
Formulae for sounding density both along and across track, it says, have been the subject of some debate since first publication, as they could be interpreted in two different ways, with resulting density being over-optimistic. The formulae have therefore been adjusted accordingly.
The company says that the new model is available with an installation CD that allows users to connect any dual-frequency echosounder from 24kHz to 400kHz while switching from one system to another. At the same time, a more advanced system can be interfaced to up to four differing echosounders which can be installed and switched via integral software. A further enhancement is the ability to record changes in transmit-pulse signals, enabling users to modify echosounder ranges without affecting basic RoxAnn data.
The system is designed for interfacing to all types of echosounder of survey grade in addition to various navigation and data acquisition software packages, including Hypack and Sonavision’s own RoxMap suite.
