SWL prepares for Seawork debut
SWL Rope Lifting and Testing Ltd will be exhibiting at Mercator Media Ltd’s Seawork Exhibition for this first time this year with its recently extended portfolio.
The Southampton-based company, which also has depots in Poole, Plymouth, Kent and South Wales, offers testing and inspecting, engineering site services and lifting gear hire and supply.
It recently received approval as an Independent Service Provider for the annual servicing and testing of lifeboats and davits, from Lloyds register and soon, Bureau Veritas.
“Whatever shipping area your fleet operates in, your life saving appliances must be tested and inspected in accordance with current regulations IMO, MSC.1/Circ.1206, SOLAS Chapter III, Regulation 20 and 36,” said Alan Batt, Plymouth depot manager.
The company has teams of fully trained engineers to carry out both the annual and five year servicing and five year proof load tests in accordance with MSC 1803 (M).
To minimise disruption to trading and operational activities, it supplies riding squads while vessels are in service.
Once testing and inspection has been completed, all certification is issues via the company’s ‘Sure Cert’ database, giving password-protected internet access to printable and downloadable electronic format certification, defect reports and history of each inspection.
SWL says this enables it to offer the industry a ‘one-stop shop’.
“It [the approval] makes SWL, I believe, unique in the market place to offer this new service with our existing engineering capability for inspection and testing of lifting equipment and gangways, supported by our ‘Sure Cert’ web-based management system to ensure our partners remain compliant with legislation,” added Chris Tuck, managing director.
