Blue Whale NxtGen debuts worldwide
Corvus Energy has introduced the Blue Whale NxtGen, a high-energy marine battery system the company says is built for an era of tougher environmental rules and increasingly power-hungry vessels.
The Blue Whale NxtGen uses cobalt-free LFP cells and is designed for a lifespan of up to 15 years. Corvus argues this longer service window translates directly into lower ownership costs for shipowners who are already wrestling with ESG requirements and tightening emissions standards.
“Blue Whale NxtGen is more than a new product launch – it represents a strategic step forward for Corvus Energy and the maritime industry,” said chief executive, Fredrik Witte.
He added that the company is leaning into contract manufacturing, expanding its footprint in China and diversifying sourcing. “We can now swap battery cells without redesigning the product, and that gives our customers long-term stability,” he said.
Ole Jacob Irgens, head of sales for EMEA and Asia, framed the battery as a direct response to customer feedback. “Our customers are asking for solutions that balance sustainability with strong business value,” he said.
“For shipyards this means a more cost-optimised supply chain and support model. For shipowners it means lower lifecycle costs and a platform that won’t be outdated before their next dry-dock.”
The Blue Whale NxtGen will ship with Corvus’ fourth-generation battery management system, enhanced cybersecurity and full data ownership for operators. First deliveries are planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.
