Svitzer expands its global towage capabilities
Global towage and marine solutions leader Svitzer Group A/S has acquired a 66.6% stake in Norwegian marine services company Buksér og Berging AS, pending final regulatory approvals.
The investment strengthens Svitzer’s position in global marine towage and marine operations, enabling both companies to share expertise and advance innovation in vessel design, offshore work and maritime safety.
“Our leadership in the Norwegian towage and marine contracting markets is built on our values, tradition and the extensive operational and technical knowledge of our capable teams,” said Vetle J. Sverdrup, CEO of Buksér og Berging.
“The investment by Svitzer presents an opportunity to continue our legacy and deepen our capabilities with a strategic partner that is a highly regarded, global company with long-term ambitions for our success.”
Strategic acquisition
Buksér og Berging, a key player in Norway’s port, terminal and offshore sectors, will continue to operate under its own brand, management, and strategy.
Headquartered in Oslo with branch offices in Stavanger and Fedje, the company operates a modern fleet of 35 tugs, 25 pilot boats, three ambulance vessels and one service vessel for salmon farming.
The company’s focus on operational excellence and vessel innovation aligns with Svitzer’s commitment to safety, sustainability and decarbonisation across global marine operations.
Svitzer CEO Kasper Nilaus said the partnership would “drive innovation and growth for both companies, further cement decarbonisation credentials and strengthen the value, safety and service offered to customers and their supply chains.”
The company has its eye on growth and sustainability. In October, it signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to have an disclosed number of electric tugs built at the Cochin Shipyard (CSL) in India, underlining its commitment to expansing and electrifying its fleet.
