World Hydrography Day
The Hydrographic Offices and agencies of France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK are among leading European organisations expected to mark the UN sponsored World Hydrography Day on 21 June with a series of commemorative functions.
The theme for this year’s annual event, set by the inter-governmental International Hydrographic Organization in Monaco, which is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary, is Human Resources. This, it says, provides an opportunity to increase overall public awareness of the vital role that hydrography plays in everyone’s lives while attracting additional recruits to a global profession dedicated to contributing to safety at sea and the protection of marine environments.
