ABPmer assesses cable route for nuclear power station
ABPmer has been commissioned by SLR Consulting (on behalf of National Grid) to undertake further marine route corridor assessments.
The new cable routes form part of a wider review of options for connecting the proposed 3.2GW Moorside nuclear power station at Sellafield and renewable energy sources to the National Grid.
The review will consider a range of technologies, from overhead power lines to marine cable array or tunneling as the means of connection. ABPmer has already provided advice on potential marine options including the methodology framework for the marine corridor evaluation. The study has involved collating marine GIS data to inform the review and assessing the marine environmental constraints such as providing potential connections across Morecambe Bay. ABPmer will also provide advice and support on consultations with key environmental stakeholders.
