Gateways to efficiency
Finland based Cargotec is helping emerging ports in Brazil develop land-side efficiency at an increasing rate.
Terminal de Vila Velha in Espirito Santo, Brazil, has opted for the installation of Cargotec’s Kalmar SmartLanes Optical Recognition (OCR) technology to ensure that both security and productivity at the gate are improved. An automated gate system captures the container numbers, truck license plates, chassis plates and driver identification of all inbound and outbound transactions.
Last year container terminals Tecon Salvador and Tecon Rio Grand, part of the Wilson Sons Group, decided to introduce gate OCR technology to improve both security and productivity.
The hardware consists of OCR rail portals, driver kiosks and barrier gates to manage a multi-staged automated gate. The investment also aims to improve information quality, reduce human error and, of course, help with Customs demands too.
