Iv-Groep wins prize for lock gates
Iv-Groep in The Netherlands won an InfraTech Innovation Prize in the Applied Innovation category for its work on the new lock gates for the Panama Canal.
InfraTech received as many as 50 entries for the InfraTech Innovation Prize.
“Due to the gigantic dimensions of the lock gates, conventional design methods weren’t sufficient. Alternative and innovative methods have been developed to comply with the high standards required, said the foreman of the jury that selected Iv-Groep. “The unique challenges in this project have led to important innovations which can also be applied in small-scale lock gates projects in The Netherlands.”
The first four of 16 lock gates will be completed by March and will be transported by sea from Europe to Panama.
