Fairmount Sherpa delivers rig in Las Palmas
The tug Fairmount Sherpa, operated by Rotterdam based Fairmount Marine, has safely delivered the rig GSF Arctic I in Las Palmas, having been towed from off Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
GSF Arctic I is a semi-submersible drilling rig for deepwater operations, owned by Houston based Transocean. The 78m long, 61m wide rig is designed to drill in water depths of up to 10,000m.
The voyage covered a distance of almost 4,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean with an average speed of 4.1 knots.
Upon arrival off Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Fairmount Sherpa performed anchor handling activities for the GSF Arctic I, mooring the rig on its eight anchors. Once the rig was safely anchored and moored, the Fairmount Sherpa was thanked for its services and departed.
Fairmount Marine is a marine contractor for ocean towage and heavy lift transportation, headquartered in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The company’s fleet consists of five modern super tugs of 205 tons bollard pull, especially designed for long distance towing, and a multipurpose support vessel.
