Danish parliament commits to Fehmarnbelt project

They also agreed to bring forward activity relating to the Fehmarnbelt project, both in terms of preparations for the tunnel project at Rødbyhavn and the upgrading of the Ringsted-Rødby rail line.

The advance activities for the Fehmarnbelt project in 2013 and 2014 include a range of preparatory works around Rødbyhavn, where the production site for the tunnel elements will be built at a later date. The advance activities will bring about a smoother and faster start to tunnel construction work, which according to the plan, will get underway in 2015. The Fehmarnbelt link will consist of an immersed tunnel crossing the approximately 19km wide Fehmarnbelt between Rødbyhavn and Puttgarden. It is due to open to traffic in 2021.
