Hard wearing decking stands test of time

In 1997, Dura Composites’ Mini Mesh fibreglass grating pontoon decking was installed on RNLI projects across the UK, including Weymouth, East Dunmore and Fenit. Recently, Dura went to take a look at one of its very first installations of its fibreglass grating product to check on its condition and performance.

The person who worked at the RNLI at the time and was responsible for making the decision to use composite rather than wooden decking for RNLI pontoons came along. Shane Carr, now of Marine Designs Ltd, confirmed that “on close inspection, the composite decking is in perfect working order and has not suffered any noticeable deterioration”.

The Dura Grating at all three RNLI sites continues to provide anti-slip properties on the pontoons and gangways, providing a safe operating environment and proving to be a great long term investment.

Whilst traditional materials, may be cheaper initially, Dura Grating is appreciated by those looking for lower life-cycle costs. Not only is the product designed to last over 25 years but it only requires a pressure wash periodically to keep it looking great and does not require painting, oiling or staining.

The anti-slip surface is tested to withstand even the wettest, oiliest and iciest conditions, thus ensuring a safe walkway and allowing access throughout the year. Dura Grating’s load capacity is extremely high and it also provides high impact resistance.
