Aircon for electronics makes Seawork debut

HVAC systems specialist Dometic Marine is extending its range of self contained systems with the development of a new air conditioning unit specifically adapted to cool electronics and other equipment in a harsh, workboat environment.

Introduced at Seawork last month, the new Vectronic electronic equipment cooling unit is a water cooled unit that features a custom made digital controller and circuit board to provide precise operation. It has been designed to maintain ideal temperatures in engine rooms and machine spaces to prevent critical components from overheating.

Paul Hickinbotham, director of sales & operations at Dometic Marine said: “Most electronics create heat and on an already hot boat this can cause problems with critical components overheating. This could lead to failure of a device, which could affect navigation for example, or create safety issues such as fire.

“Instead of cooling cabins, this new product has been designed by our engineers to specifically cool machinery. The unit’s set point can be limited to around 30°C to ensure the areas containing sensitive electronics are kept at an acceptable temperature range.”

The components of the new self contained unit will be specially protected from the harsh environment, while a controller, normally mounted remotely, will be mounted directly on the unit. A metal grid spans the mouth of the blower to prevent any accidental contact with the spinning fan inside.

Suited to boats of all sizes, the Vectronic provides a powerful, compact and quiet self contained air conditioning system for areas where electronics are housed, an important but often overlooked region onboard. Its unique ‘marine-optimised design’ features a stainless steel drain pan that has three drain points for the rapid removal of condensate water.

The new integrated system precisely controls the environment to optimise the functionality of the vessel’s electronic systems.

The new unit adds to Dometic Marine’s range of commercial and workboat specific equipment.
